Are there any tax credits for window replacement in Ontario?
Are there any tax credits for window replacement in Ontario?
Yes, there are several rebate programs available for window replacement in Ontario, though they're technically rebates rather than tax credits. The most significant opportunities come through federal and provincial energy efficiency programs.
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is the primary federal program offering up to $5,000 in rebates for energy-efficient window and door replacements. To qualify, your new windows must meet ENERGY STAR certification requirements (U-factor of 1.22 or lower) and you need both pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. This program has been extended through 2024 and potentially beyond, making it an excellent opportunity for Ottawa homeowners planning window upgrades.
Enbridge Gas also offers the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program for their customers, providing up to $5,000 for windows and doors that meet specific energy performance criteria. This program focuses on natural gas savings and requires ENERGY STAR certified products. Many Ottawa homeowners can actually combine both the federal Greener Homes Grant and Enbridge rebates for maximum savings.
In Ottawa's Climate Zone 6, triple-pane windows with Low-E coatings and argon fill typically qualify for these programs while providing excellent energy performance for our harsh winters. The key is ensuring your new windows meet the strict energy efficiency requirements - something quality installers are familiar with when helping homeowners navigate these programs.
The application process requires energy assessments and proper documentation, so it's important to work with experienced contractors who understand the rebate requirements.
